Below is a test video for you to verify that your computer/tablet device and internet connections will be suitable for the course.

A video player window will be displayed below, and playback can be commenced by clicking your mouse on the video player.

Audio volume levels can be adjusted by using the 'slider'.

Note that the video can be paused at any time during playback by clicking your mouse over the presentation.

In addition, video can be made full screen by pressing on the "enlarge view" option - Picture_4

The Video and Audio are working:

If the video works, then you are all set for the short course. We hope that you enjoy the course and look forward to meeting you in person at the weekend sessions!

The video and audio are not working:

If the video does not work, you will need to verify a few things:

On desktop and notebook systems, the video system defaults to Adobe Flash to play back video. Adobe Flash is installed by default on over 98% of personal computers, and will work on a variety of computer operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X and Linux).

You may have to update your Flash player to the latest version (10.0 or above).

On tablet devices, the video player will play the video without the use of Flash (e.g. Apple iPad or iOS devices).

How do I know what version of flash I am using?

Click here to view the version of Flash Player that is installed on your system (Note that this opens a new window)

How do I update my flash player?

Click here to be taken to Adobe to download the lastest version of Flash Player for your internet browser/operating system (Note that this opens a new window)

The video is choppy

The video requires an internet connection of at least 650 kilobits per second. Most internet connections from our prior participants were well above this minimum.

Note that whilst 3G or mobile broadband can have speeds exceeding 650 kilobits per second, they are unlikely to deliver this speed as a sustained output. Hence we do not recommend using these to view the video on the site. This type of connection is well suited for viewing the reading material, participating in the forum etc but will not view video in general well.

What other requirements are there?

We recommend that you use a relatively recent internet browser to take full advantage of the site.

Please note that this site is not fully compatible with Internet Explorer 6, like many other websites on the internet today (Google, YouTube, Picasa etc). Internet Explorer 6 was last supported by Microsoft in 2004, and has not had any updates since. By continuining to use IE 6, you are open to all security breaches (at last count, over 1000 and rising) that continue to target IE 6. IE 6 continues to be a major source of identity theft, credit card fraud and malware spread.

We recommend that you update your browser to a more recent browser (Internet explorer 7 or 8, FireFox, Safari or Opera) and have relevant system patches/updates as well as a firewall installed on your system.
